Important note about vehicle modifications!

Sales Tax Exemption for Modified Vehicles.  In Texas, purchasers of automobiles with modifications are exempt from sales taxes on the purchase.  The financial manager at the dealership will advise the purchaser what documentation they require and will submit it with the vehicle purchase paperwork.  In most cases, a receipt for modifications made to the vehicle is sufficient to exempt the purchaser from paying the sales tax.  As the dealership does not keep the taxes collected, they are very cooperative because this will let the purchaser have another $1,000 or so (depending on the price of the car) to spend on the vehicle. Typically, the dealership will let the purchaser take the vehicle (or they might even take it) to a shop before the vehicle is delivered, have the modifications made, then return the car with the necessary receipt prior to signing the final papers.

Reimbursement for Modifications Made to a New Vehicle.  Additionally, many vehicle manufacturers have new vehicle modification allowances (GM is $1,000 for example) for vehicle modifications and will reimburse (in a 3-4 week turnaround) the purchaser for pedal extensions, upper dashboard area extensions, power lifts (for amigos and wheel chairs), installation and so forth.  Again, if a modification reimbursement plan is available, the dealership financial manager will have the manufacturer's required form and will (typically) assist the purchaser in its processing.  You certainly want to ask about this if you are purchasing a new vehicle.

"Bedside co-sleeper"
It's kind of like a porta-crib, with a side that folds down to mattress level so you can reach the baby from bed.  It converts to a playpen, and the fold-down side makes it easier for short statured parents or wheelchair users to pick up a child (or so the catalog says).  The catalog lists it as item #2173NF, priced at $189.95 US.  Looks like an ordinary playpen with a bassinet on it, but one of the sides folds down for either easier changing, or to put it right next to your bed, and it is about the same level.  It says it is great for wheelchairs or people of short stature. Available through "One Step Ahead.”  It comes with a carrying bag for portability.
